When we buy Android smartphones, we want the best - with good features and with good camera resolutions. Nowadays, most smartphones have at least 8 MP resolution camera. And more resolution means, more video file size. Eventually, the phone's memory is going to be filled as memory is not unlimited! So there may come a time when you might need to compress the videos to keep them on the phone though backing them up on a computer is more practical to preserve the original resolution and quality. And most users use mobile data connection which is costlier than our home Wi-Fi. And some users share video shot off their mobile phone camera as it is. For viewing a video on mobile devices, a very high resolution is not necessary. Thus, it seems more practical to compress such videos before sharing to others so that the sharer does not waste a lot of data and even so that the receiver also do not need to spend a lot of data to download the video. While we can also use desktop video editing / compression software to compress videos and put them back to the phone, it may be a tedious task. And why do that when there are Android apps for it, hmm?
